Trump issued an executive order on Wednesday, imposing new sanctions on Iran’s

even taking to Twitter to threaten anyone doing business with Iran to have
their assets illegally seized by Washington. At the same time, the White
House fool added that he is “looking forward to someday meeting with the
leaders of Iran in order to work out an agreement and, very importantly, taking steps to give Iran the future it
deserves,”
What kind of a sick statement is this? Washington truly has no
limit as to how low it can sink. Do they actually believe that Tehran will
capitulate and agree to humiliation? I have a hard time believing even the
idiots in Washington are this stupid. They can’t seriously believe that Tehran
is going to be enticed to come back to the table with these threats and
sanctions imposed.
As a matter of fact things in Iran
is looking really bad for the proponents of the JCPOA and further negotiations

battery of Patriot missiles and the transport ship USS Arlington are being
deployed to the region “in response to
indications of heightened Iranian readiness to conduct offensive operations
against US forces and our interests.”
While the US military has become a
semi-permanent fixture in the Persian Gulf, it’s unusual for Washington to call out Iran by name when justifying
such deployments. On Sunday, the head of Iran’s elite Revolutionary Guards,
Major General Hossein Salami, described American activity in the region as a
“psychological war.”
Still, Pompeo stressed that he
would “welcome” a call from Tehran, but that sanctions and American military
posturing would continue unless the Iranian government “changes its behavior.” As an example, the Secretary of State claimed
that Hezbollah, a militant group backed by Iran, is now operating in Venezuela – another country in
Washington’s crosshairs. Pompeo has
yet to provide evidence substantiating the Hezbollah-Venezuela link which he so
often speaks out.
Venezuela itself has been exposed
to Washington’s unique form of diplomacy: A US Coast Guard vessel was
instructed to turn back after traveling towards Venezuela’s territorial waters.
A patrol boat was dispatched by the Venezuelan Navy to discourage the US ship
from encroaching further. Caracas has
been faced with a crisis since January, when US-backed opposition leader Juan
Guaido declared himself interim president.

people, who have banded together in support of Maduro in spite of violence

The U.S. equivalent of Venezuela's Popular Will Party is the Ku Klux
Klan. The Popular Will Party is armed and has, at times, fired upon

majority of Venezuelan residents are Black and Indian and they will lose their
homes and their standard of living if Guaido's white supremacists are put into

Years ago, Hugo Chavez became the
popular hero of Venezuela, having stood up as a military hero against a
government that killed 3000 Venezuelans in a one week period during 1989. For
standing up and speaking out, Hugo Chavez was put into the formerly treacherous
prison system in Venezuela in 1992 but was released following public outcries in 1994 In 1998, he was elected President of
Venezuela. Unlike the Rafael Caldera Government, Chavez's Bolivarian
Revolution was based on the idea that
the resources of Venezuela belonged to the people.
In addition to putting into place
the kind of reforms Bernie has called for in the USA, Chavez reformed the prison system, making it humane and protective of
the rights of the inmates, something it was not when he was held prisoners.
On his death bed, Chavez spoke to the Venezuelan people and asked them to
support his Vice President Nicolas Maduro to be their next President.
Maduro has expanded on Chavez's reforms, building millions of new homes
in the last few years. In Venezuela, people own their homes and cannot be
evicted. As a result, there is no
homelessness. The government provides boxes of food to the people
bi-weekly, supplying all their food needs. This has been necessary because of
the U.S. sanctions and the theft of foods from the supermarkets by black market
profiteers. The supermarkets are
currently full of food but the boxes of food provided to each family has
alleviated any financial difficulties in purchasing the food.
Venezuela also has free medical
care. 2400 doctors (not military people) were sent from Cuba to help provide
the free medical care. The U.S.
Government has been blocking medicine shipments. This has caused problems to
people with medical conditions. Russia and China are trying to assist with
providing the medicine the U.S. Government is trying to keep out in order to
save lives.
While the U.S. longevity rate has
gone down, thanks to the reforms of Chavez and Maduro, it has gone up in
Venezuela. The infant mortality rate
decreased by half within two years of Chavez taking office. It has increased
in the USA…

support of Maduro and Venezuela. In Los Angeles, ANSWER ran out of

Trump’s pick to replace Rex
Tillerson is an errand boy for billionaires.
In the Republican wave election of
2010, when Charles and David Koch emerged as defining figures in American
politics, the greatest beneficiary of
Koch Industries largesse was a political newcomer named Mike Pompeo. After
his election to the House eight years ago, Pompeo was referred to as the “Koch
Brothers’ Congressman” and “the congressman from Koch.” Now Pompeo is positioned to become a Koch
brothers–influenced secretary of state.
After serving for a little more than a year as Donald Trump’s top
yes-man at the Central Intelligence Agency, Pompeo is Trump’s pick to
replace Rex Tillerson, the administration’s listless placeholder at the
Department of State.
In a measure of the extent to which
Trump and Tillerson had disengaged from one another, the outgoing secretary of state apparently learned of his firing via
Twitter Tuesday morning—when an aide showed the nation’s top diplomat a
tweet from the president announcing the transition. A statement from the
department indicated that Tillerson was “unaware of the reason” for his
removal.
Tillerson displayed a measure of
independence from Trump on issues ranging from Russian cyber attacks to the
aggressive approach of Saudi Arabia to Qatar and other countries. Donald
Trump has decided to put “the congressman from Koch” in charge of the State
Department and, by extension, the engagement of the United States
government with a world in which the brothers Koch have many, many interests.
Pompeo’s pattern of deference to
his political benefactors is likely to make him a better fit with a
self-absorbed president. He will also bring to the position an edge that
Tillerson lacked. Pompeo is a foreign-policy hawk who fiercely opposed the
Iran nuclear deal, stoked fears about Muslims in the United States and
abroad, opposed closing the Guantánamo Bay detention camp, and defended the National Security Agency’s unconstitutional
surveillance programs as “good and important work.”
He has even gone so far as to
say that NSA whistle-blower Edward Snowden “should be brought back
from Russia and given due process, and I think the proper outcome would be that
he would be given a death sentence.”
Pompeo’s open disregard for privacy rights in particular and civil
liberties in general, as well as his penchant for extreme language and more
extreme policies, are anything but diplomatic…
In addition to being a hothead,
Pompeo has long been one of the most conflicted political figures in the
conflicted city of Washington, thanks to
his ties to the privately held and secretive global business empire that has
played a pivotal role in advancing his political career. Pompeo came out of
the same Wichita, Kansas, business community where the Koch family’s
oil-and-gas conglomerate is headquartered. Indeed, Pompeo built his own
company with seed money from Koch Venture Capital.
More important, from a political
standpoint, is the fact that Pompeo made
the leap from business to government with a big boost from the Koch brothers
and their employees. “I’m sure he would vigorously dispute this, but it’s
hard not to characterize him as the congressman from Koch,” says University of

case with Republican recipients of Koch cash and encouragement, it is the advocacy by these billionaire

food-labeling issues that are of tremendous interest to the global

Congressman Mike Pompeo was the
single largest recipient of campaign funds from the Koch Brothers in 2010. After winning election with Koch money,
Congressman Pompeo hired a Koch Industries lawyer to run his office. According
to The Washington Post, Congressman Pompeo then introduced bills friendly to
Koch Industries while Koch hired outside lobbyists to support them.
Recalling the 2010 election, the
Center for Responsive Politics explained that
Koch Industries had never spent as much on a candidate in a single
cycle as it did on Pompeo that time around, giving him a total [of]
$80,000. Koch outdid itself again in
the 2012 cycle by ponying up $110,000 for Pompeo’s campaign.
When Pompeo ran for reelection in
2014, he faced a tight primary contest with another local Republican who had
Koch ties. One of the biggest turning points in that race came when the Kochs
sided with Pompeo…

loyal to Pompeo, so Pompeo has been loyal to the Kochs. He’s a
regular at their behind-closed-doors gatherings, and he’s outspoken in their

to Monsanto and major financial stakes in Bayer.
CARACAS, VENEZUELA — As the
political crisis in Venezuela has unfolded, much has been said about the Trump
administration’s clear interest in the privatization and exploitation of
Venezuela’s oil reserves, the largest in the world, by American oil giants like
Chevron and ExxonMobil. Yet the influence of another notorious
American company, Monsanto — now a subsidiary of Bayer — has gone largely
unmentioned.
While numerous other Latin American
nations have become a “free for all” for the biotech company and its affiliates, Venezuela has been one of the few
countries to fight Monsanto and other international agrochemical giants and win.
However, since that victory — which was won under Chavista rule — the
U.S.-backed Venezuelan opposition has been working to undo it.
Now, with Juan Guaidó’s parallel government attempting to take power with the
backing of the U.S., it is telling
that the top political donors of those in the U.S. most fervently pushing
regime change in Venezuela have close ties to Monsanto and major financial
stakes in Bayer.
In recent months, Monsanto’s most
controversial and notorious product — the
pesticide glyphosate, branded as Roundup, and linked to cancer in recent U.S.
court rulings — has threatened Bayer’s financial future as never before,
with a litany of new court cases barking at Bayer’s door.
It appears that many of the forces in the U.S. now seeking to
overthrow the Venezuelan government are hoping that a new Guaidó-led government
will provide Bayer with a fresh, much-needed market for its agrochemicals
and transgenic seeds, particularly those products
that now face bans in countries all over the world, including once-defoliated
and still-poisoned Vietnam.
U.S.-Backed Venezuelan opposition seeks to reverse Chavista seed law
and GMO ban
In 2004, then-president of Venezuela, Hugo Chávez, surprised many when
he announced the cancellation of Monsanto’s plans to plant 500,000 acres of
Venezuelan agricultural land in genetically modified (GM) soybeans.
The cancellation of Monsanto’s
Venezuela contract led to what became an ad hoc ban on all GM seeds in the
entire country, a move that was praised by local farmer groups and
environmental activists. In contrast to anti-GM movements that have sprung up
in other countries, Venezuela’s
resistance to GM crops was based more on concerns about the country’s food
sovereignty and protecting the livelihoods of farmers.
Although the ban has failed to keep
GM products out of Venezuela — as Venezuela has long imported a majority of its
food, much of it originating in countries that are among the world’s largest
producers of genetically modified foods — one clear effect has been preventing companies like Monsanto and
other major agrochemical and seed companies from gaining any significant
foothold in the Venezuelan market.
In 2013, a new seed law was nearly
passed that would have allowed GM seeds to be sold in Venezuela through a legal
loophole. That law, which was authored by a member of the Chavista United
Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV), was widely protested by farmers,
indigenous activists, environmentalists, and eco-socialist groups, which led to
the law’s transformation into what has been nicknamed the “People’s Seed Law.” That law, passed in 2015, went even farther
than the original 2004 ban by banning not just GM seeds but several toxic
agrochemicals, while also
strengthening heirloom seed varieties through the creation of the National Seed
Institute.
Soon after the new seed law was passed in 2015, the U.S.-backed Venezuelan
opposition led by the Roundtable of Democratic Unity (MUD) — a group comprised
of numerous U.S.-funded political parties, including Guaidó’s Popular Will —
took control of the country’s National Assembly. Until Venezuela’s Supreme Court dissolved the assembly in 2017, the
MUD-legislature attempted to repeal the seed law on several occasions.
Those in favor of the repeal called the seed bill “anti-scientific” and
damaging to the economy.
Despite the 2017 Supreme Court
decision, the National Assembly has continued to meet, but the body holds no
real power in the current Venezuelan government. However, if the current government is overthrown and Guaidó — the “interim president” who is also president
of the dissolved National Assembly — comes to power, it seems almost certain
that the
“People’s Seed Law” will be one of the first pieces of legislation on the
chopping block.
Some of the key figures and loudest
voices supporting the efforts of the Trump
administration to overthrow the Venezuelan government in the United States are
well-connected to one particular think-tank, the American Enterprise Institute
(AEI). For instance, John Bolton — now Trump’s national security advisor
and a major player in the administration’s aggressive Venezuela policy — was a
senior fellow at AEI until he became Trump’s top national security official.
As national security adviser,
Bolton advises the president on foreign policy and issues of national security
while also advising both the Secretary of State and the Secretary of Defense. As of late, he has been pushing for
military action in Venezuela, according to media reports.
Another key figure in Trump’s
Venezuela policy — Elliott Abrams, the
State Department’s Special Representative for Venezuela — has been regularly
featured at AEI summits and as a guest on its panels and podcasts.
According to Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, Abrams’ current role gives him the
“responsibility for all things related to our efforts to restore democracy” in
Venezuela.
Other top figures in the administration, including Vice President Mike
Pence and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, were featured guests at the AEI’s
“secretive” gathering in early March. As MintPress and other outlets have
reported, Guaidó declared himself “interim president” of Venezuela at
Pence’s behest. Pompeo is also intimately involved in directing Trump’s
Venezuela policy as the president’s main adviser on foreign affairs…
While the AEI is best known for its hawkishness, it is also a promoter
of big agricultural interests. Since 2000, It has hosted several
conferences on the promise of “biotechnology” and genetically modified seeds
and has heavily promoted the work of former Monsanto lobbyist Jon Entine, who
was an AEI visiting fellow for several years. The AEI also has long-time
connections to Dow Chemical.
The most likely reason for the
AEI’s interest in promoting biotech, however, can be found in its links to
Monsanto. In 2013, The Nation acquired a 2009 AEI document, obtained through a
filing error and not intended for public disclosure, that revealed the think
tank’s top donors. The form, known as

time were the Donors Capital Fund and billionaire Paul Singer…
Yet, it is AEI’s top individual
donor noted in the accidental “schedule of contributors” disclosure who is most
telling about the private biotech interests guiding the Trump administration’s
Venezuela policy. Paul Singer, the
controversial billionaire hedge fund manager, has long been a major donor to
neoconservative and Zionist causes — helping fund the Foreign Policy
Initiative (FPI), the successor to the Project for a New American Century
(PNAC); and the neoconservative and islamophobic Foundation for the Defense of
Democracies (FDD), in addition to the AEI.
Singer is notably one of the top
political donors to Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) and has been intimately involved
in the recent chaos in Venezuela. He has
been called one of the architects of the administration’s current regime-change
policy, and was the top donor to Rubio’s presidential campaign, as well as a
key figure behind the controversial “dossier” on Donald Trump that was
compiled by Fusion GPS.
Indeed, Singer had been the first
person to hire Fusion GPS to do “opposition research” on Trump. However, Singer has largely since evaded much
scrutiny for his role in the dossier’s creation, likely because he became a key
donor to Trump following his election win in 2016, giving $1 million to
Trump’s inauguration fund.

President Donald Trump and his inner circle are planning an extensive
invasion of Iran, according to a source working in the White House. The plan involves a ground invasion and the
use of tactical nuclear weapons, in a campaign planned for the Fall of 2019.
Iran will be “wiped off the map” according to the source, and the war effort is
expected to cost “two and half times the Iraq War.”
The war will be promoted by the
news media and Trump will go right along with it, after an “expected False Flag
pinned on Iran, probably something involving the boats in the Strait of Hormuz.” The False Flag is an “integral part of
the plan” as Iran has reportedly no desire or intent to start a war, according
to the whistleblower.
The war plans have the White House staff “in an excited tizzy” as
war-hawks like John Bolton put the “finishing touches” on the planned strike.
President Trump initially showed resistance to the plan, but has since jumped
on board with enthusiasm, convinced Iran is an “existential threat to Israel”
and as such, a war is required to “eliminate them.”
Due to President Trump’s close
relationship with Jared Kushner, a sense of “sober import” has been placed on
the war effort, which is being as a fulfillment of “Jewish prophecy” within
White House circles. Many in the White
House believe Jared Kushner is the “Messiah” or Jewish “Moshiach” who cannot
attain his “throne” until Iran is wiped out…

The US-China Trade Scuffle Will Kick Off the Great Meltdown
The be-Muellered, bothered, and
bewildered American public may find US-China trade talks about as interesting
as a rain delay in an Orioles-Chisox game, but the Friday collapse of negotiations may be marked by historians as the
day that the global economy died. The Big Box blue-light-special orgy of
bargain shopping ran about thirty years, with China exuberantly pumping out
cheap consumer goods to feed the US beast-of-Mammon. Americans happily payed
for it all with IOUs based on long daisy chains of previous IOUs. Tom Friedman
of The New York Times said it would last forever. Alas….
The paradigm kicked off for one
simple reason: energy flows dictated capital flows. By the mid-1980s, the
non-OPEC world was once again swimming in oil from the last great bonanzas of
the oil age: The Alaska North Slope and the North Sea. Twenty years later, they
were running down. Meanwhile, the USA
had fecklessly “offshored” its factories in the mistaken belief that we had
entered a shimmering new digital economy of virtual business were (sic)
nobody had to make real stuff.
China became the world’s workshop and the USA became the world’s financial
bucket-shop, churning out endless swindles and frauds. The predictable
result was the financial crisis of 2008, which coincided with oil prices rising
to over $140-a-barrel (and six months later they crashed, with the economy, to
under $30-a-barrel).
The “recovery” from that was based
on Wall Street’s premier swindle: the shale oil “miracle,” based on high-risk lending to companies that couldn’t make a red cent even
while accomplishing the majestic stunt of exceeding America’s old 1970 oil
production peak of around 10 million barrels-a-day (now at around 12 million). Notice, too, that the final push to
12-million barrels occurred during the last two years: thus, Mr. Trump’s
miracle economy. All that, to paraphrase the immortal words of Mr. Dylan,
balances like a mattress on a bottle of wine.
The China-US trade impasse, if it
stands for even a few months, will crash the US economy again and it will also
crash the price of shale oil back to levels that destroy oil companies. You
understand, of course, that the rise of shale oil was amazingly swift, ten
years, and that its fall will be similarly fast and furious. The feds may have to either bail it out or
nationalize the whole shootin’ match — and that will end up as just another
rat-hole we pound sand into, along with our long-running campaign to build
failed states overseas. Translation: not so good for the value of the US
dollar.
We’re moving into a summer of grave
discontent. I don’t believe that China-US trade relationship can be repaired. The disturbances we have set in motion will
surely unleash the wicked animus against the USA that has been building among
other nations since before 9/11/01.
Even the Europeans, our old
pals, have soured on us. The war hawks are steering our ship-of-state into
reefy waters. The dithering Federal
Reserve (America’s central bank) has painted itself into a corner with years of
interest rate suppression and market manipulations. Bad weather in the
American breadbasket portends rising food prices for us, and less to export (or
give away) to the really hungry corners of the world. Less food makes for
belligerent nations.
There is already enough tension in
the world as it faces not just the end of a global trade fiesta, but a
world-wide synchronized economic depression. This is the one from which there
will be no “recovery” but only adaptation to lower standards of living and new
arrangements for getting by. In other
words, the contraction will be permanent…
Our fantasies about the super
high-tech nirvana of endless leisure with sex robots will dissolve with it. The
dark apprehension of all this has already produced a psychotic break in US
politics. We now live in a land where Nabisco uses transsexuals to sell Chips
Ahoy cookies. Next to us, the old Weimar Republic looks like a Boy Scout camporee.
This economic meltdown will play
into the worst insecurities of Mr. Trump, the Golden Golem of Greatness. His
domestic political antagonists long ago declared all-out war on him. The
perpetually rising stock market was all that tempered his behavior in the face
of that obloquy. With the economy
fizzling, he will fight back Golem-style, like a demon from the underworld.
But for all of Mr. Trump’s Teutonic
neuroticism, he holds an advantage in
that battle: the documented facts appear to show that he was unfairly
persecuted for two years by opponents who outsmarted themselves in actually
breaking the law, and they are on the run before a gathering juggernaut of
referrals for indictments. The
craziness of their desperation is now on view for all to see in the antics of
the House committees.
All this raises the question: can
this country hold itself together? Mr. Trump would be a most unlikely figure to
provide the necessary moral support. He’s no Franklin Roosevelt reassuring the
immiserated masses with fireside chats over the radio, and he sure ain’t
Fiorello LaGuardia, reading the Sunday funnies to people out of work and out of
luck. But never forget that history is a
trickster. Even the profoundly flawed sometimes strangely find themselves on
the hero’s journey.
After toying with the idea of placing clowns like Herman
Cain and Stephen Moore on the Federal Reserve Board, Trump has finally placed his

Trade
The White House is considering conservative economist Judy Shelton to fill
one of the two vacancies on the Federal Reserve Board of Governors that
President Donald Trump has struggled to fill.
She’s currently U.S. executive director for the European Bank for
Reconstruction and Development, and previously worked for the Sound Money
Project, which was founded to promote awareness about monetary stability and
financial privacy.
Case for Monetary Regime Change
On April 21, Judy Shelton had an ope-ed in the Wall Street Journal: The Case for
Monetary Regime Change. Since
President Trump announced his intention to nominate Herman Cain and Stephen
Moore to serve on the Federal Reserve’s board of governors, mainstream commentators have made a point
of dismissing anyone sympathetic to a gold standard as crankish or unqualified.
But it is wholly legitimate, and
entirely prudent, to question the infallibility of the Federal Reserve in
calibrating the money supply to the needs of the economy. No other government institution had more influence over the creation of
money and credit in the lead-up to the devastating 2008 global meltdown.
And the Fed’s response to the meltdown
may have exacerbated the damage by lowering the incentive for banks to fund
private-sector growth.
What began as an emergency decision in the wake of the financial crisis
to pay interest to commercial banks on excess reserves has become the Fed’s main mechanism for conducting monetary policy.
To raise interest rates, the Fed increases the rate it pays banks to keep their
$1.5 trillion in excess reserves—eight times what is required—parked in accounts
at Federal Reserve district banks. Rewarding
banks for holding excess reserves in sterile depository accounts at the Fed
rather than making loans to the public does not help create business or spur
job creation.
Meanwhile, for all the talk of a
“rules-based” system for international trade, there are no rules when it comes
to ensuring a level monetary playing field. The classical gold standard established an international benchmark for
currency values, consistent with free-trade principles. Today’s arrangements
permit governments to manipulate their currencies to gain an export advantage.
Money is meant to serve as a
reliable unit of account and store of value across borders and through time.
It’s entirely reasonable to ask whether this might be better assured by linking the supply of money and credit to
gold or some other reference point as opposed to relying on the judgment of a
dozen or so monetary officials meeting eight times a year to set interest
rates. A linked system could allow currency convertibility by individuals (as
under a gold standard) or foreign central banks (as under Bretton Woods).
Either way, it could redress inflationary pressures.
Money Meltdown
Judy Shelton is author of the 1998
book Money Meltdown. I just ordered the
book to have a better idea where she is coming from. Regardless, I am certain she would have been a better choice for Fed chair than
Powell, Bernanke, Yellen, or Greenspan.
Bubbles of Increasing Amplitude
Shelton concluded "Central
bankers, and their defenders, have proven less than omniscient."
Indeed.
The judgement of the Fed has produced three consecutive bubbles, each
bigger than the one before it. The only reason the latest bubble is not
acknowledged yet is that it hasn't yet burst. It's not clear precisely what Shelton has in
mind but at least she is headed in the right direction. What's clear is Trump
is fighting the wrong battle when it comes to trade.
Tariffs will not fix the
alleged problems of currency manipulation. A gold standard would.
All of these wars would never have been possible if Nixon
had not taken America off the gold standard in order to fund the Vietnam War. When President Clinton left office after 8
years of peace and prosperity, America had a surplus. The Federal Reserve Bank’s 100 year contract
to print up America’s currency was set to expire in 2013. The Fed needed endless wars in order to
justify their existence therefore America’s elected government was overthrown
in December 2000.
Five corrupt members of the Supreme Court declared George W.
Bush, as the winner of the presidential election. Within nine months the World Trade Center was
brought down through a controlled demolition.
Bush and Cheney came into office
with plans to keep America in unending war.
General Wesley Clark was told that Bush/Cheney entered office with plans
to overthrow seven countries in five years.
