Sunday Morning Coming Down: American Empire Abandoned as World Coalesces With Russia

Oh breakups are so messy.  When control of the American government was seized by a confluence of neoconservatives and neoliberals in 2000, Bush declared “You are either with us or you are against us.”  Either you clear the way for American hegemony or we’ll bomb you back to the Stone Age.

Since 2000 the various conservative think tanks in Washington, drunk with power have been on binge of hegemony in the Middle East and Eurasia.  The European Union like an abused wife trapped in a loveless marriage has finally had enough.  The choice is stark, break free and swim for the surface or you will drown with your abuser.  Russia has provided a “Battered Wife” safe house and the European nations are flocking to the safety Russia has offered.  For America the drunken binge is over, it’s Sunday Morning Coming Down.

In July, 2015 Russian President Vladimir Putin banned the NGO National Endowment for Democracies from Russia after the U.S. imposed sanctions on Russia for “human rights abuses”.  From The Guardian:

Excerpt:

The National Endowment for Democracy, a Washington-based nonprofit funded largely by the US Congress, has become the first group to be banned in Russia under a law against “undesirable” international nongovernmental organisations.

According to its website, the National Endowment for Democracy (NED) is “dedicated to the growth and strengthening of democratic institutions around the world” and has funded local non-governmental organisations in more than 90 countries. But in a statement on Tuesday, the prosecutor general’s office said it “poses a threat to the constitutional order of the Russian Federation and the defensive capability and security of the government”.

“Using Russian commercial and noncommercial organisations under its control, the National Endowment for Democracy participated in work to declare the results of election campaigns illegitimate, organise political actions intended to influence decisions made by the authorities, and discredit service in Russia’s armed forces,” the statement said.

Of course America’s boilerplate response was Putin is trying to quash dissent.  From Fiscal Times:

Excerpt:

The National Endowment for Democracy, a U.S.-based non-profit that promotes the spread of democratic government worldwide, is the first victim of a new law in Russia that allows the country’s prosecutor general to declare foreign entities “undesirable organizations” and bar them from operating in the country….

The decision appears to be the first use of the new authority granted to the Prosecutor General earlier this year, and which appears to be another effort by the government of President Vladimir Putin aimed at stifling dissent.

Though structured as an independent organization with a board of directors made up of private citizens, NED it is widely seen an arm of the United States government, receiving almost all of its funding from congressional appropriations. And while its board members are not current government employees, many have had considerable careers in the government prior to joining.

A grant-making organization, NED has provided millions of dollars in financial support to civil society groups in Russia, some of which have challenged official state policies. The decision makes it illegal for Russian citizens to interact with the organization, on pain of fines or prison time…..

…. when a group is designated as undesirable, “all its assets in Russia must be frozen, offices closed and distribution of any of its information materials must be banned. If the ban is violated, both the personnel of the outlawed group and Russian citizens who cooperate with them face punishments of heavy fines, or even prison terms in case of repeated or aggravated offence.”

My, my, my.  Who to believe Putin or the NED?  Let’s take a look at some of the previous handiwork of the NED spreading democracy.  How about their democracy spreading work in Egypt and Syria.  From Global Research:

Excerpt:

National Endowment for Democracies Broke U.S. Laws by Funding Terrorists in Egypt and Syria

What's that you say?  The National Endowment for Democracies broke U.S. Laws funding terrorists in Egypt and Syria?  Hmmm,

Information obtained under the Freedom of Information Act, interviews, and public records reveal Washington’s “democracy assistance” may have violated Egyptian law, which prohibits foreign political funding.

It may also have broken US government regulations that ban the use of taxpayers’ money to fund foreign politicians, or finance subversive activities that target democratically elected governments.

Washington’s democracy assistance programme for the Middle East is filtered through a pyramid of agencies within the State Department. Hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars is channeled through the Bureau for Democracy, Human Rights and Labor (DRL), The Middle East Partnership Initiative (MEPI), USAID, as well as the Washington-based, quasi-governmental organisation the National Endowment for Democracy (NED)….

A main conduit for channeling the State Department’s democracy funds to Egypt has been the National Endowment for Democracy. Federal documents show NED, which in 2011 was authorised an annual budget of $118m by Congress, funneled at least $120,000 over several years to an exiled Egyptian police officer who has for years incited violence in his native country.

This appears to be in direct contradiction to its Congressional mandate, which clearly states NED is to engage only in “peaceful” political change overseas.

Oh, dear.  Are you saying the “non-profit” NED was given $118 million in American taxpayer money in 2011 to spread democracy in Syria and Egypt by congress?  Isn’t 2011 when congress passed the Budget Control Act? From Center on Budget and Policy Priorities:

Excerpt:

The Budget Control Act (BCA) of 2011 imposed caps on discretionary programs that will reduce their funding by more than $1 trillion over the ten years from 2012 through 2021….

Broadly speaking, for 2013 the across-the-board cuts will mean about an 8.4 percent cut in most affected non-defense discretionary programs, a 7.5 percent cut in affected defense programs, an 8.0 percent cut in affected mandatory programs other than Medicare, and a 2.0 percent cut in Medicare provider payments.

For 2014 through 2021, the Medicare cut will remain at 2 percent while the percentage cuts in other programs will gradually shrink.

Well I’m sure the American people don’t mind cutting VA Benefits, Medicare, Medicaid, unemployment benefits, Social Security and all so that the National Endowment For Democracies can “spread democracy” in Egypt and Syria.  So let’s see what the American people got for their money from the NED:

Colonel Omar Afifi Soliman – who served in Egypt’s elite investigative police unit, notorious for human rights abuses – began receiving NED funds in 2008 for at least four years.

During that time he and his followers targeted Mubarak’s government, and Soliman later followed the same tactics against the military rulers who briefly replaced him. Most recently Soliman set his sights on Morsi’s government.

Soliman, who has refugee status in the US, was sentenced in absentia last year for five years imprisonment by a Cairo court for his role in inciting violence in 2011 against the embassies of Israel and Saudi Arabia, two US allies.

He also used social media to encourage violent attacks against Egyptian officials, according to court documents and a review of his social media posts.

US Internal Revenue Service documents reveal that NED paid tens of thousands of dollars to Soliman through an organisation he created called Hukuk Al-Nas (People’s Rights), based in Falls Church, Virginia. Federal forms SHOW HE IS THE ONLY EMPLOYEE.

Former Egyptian police colonel Omar Afifi works from his command center in his apartment in Falls Church, Va.

After he was awarded a 2008 human rights fellowship at NED and moved to the US, Soliman received a second $50,000 NED grant in 2009 for Hukuk Al-Nas. In 2010, he received $60,000 and another $10,000 in 2011.

Well, sounds like this Soliman guy doesn't have to worry about living on Social Security or relying on Wall Street profit drive Obama Care for his medical needs.  Why old Soliman must be grateful to the NED for this largess he received for his “2008 human rights fellowship at NED” being a wanted man in Cairo and all.

In an interview with the Investigative Reporting Program at UC Berkeley, Soliman reluctantly admitted he received US government funding from the National Endowment for Democracy, but complained it wasn’t enough. “It is like $2000 or $2,500 a month,” he said. “Do you think this is too much? Obama wants to give us peanuts. We will not accept that.”

NED has removed public access to its Egyptian grant recipients in 2011 and 2012 from its website. NED officials didn’t respond to repeated interview requests….

US taxpayer money has also been sent to groups set up by some of Egypt’s richest people, raising questions about waste in the democracy programme.

Well, well, well.  So Americans on Social Security Disability will have their benefits cut by 20%  in 2016 as part of the “agreement between the Obama Administration and congress” to give Soliman $2,000 to $2,500 per month which he calls “peanuts.”   And, that’s not all, the lawless Obama Administration also has broken an American law called the Leahy Amendment by arming terrorists in Syria to overthrow the elected government.  From InformationClearing House:

Excerpt:

Enacted in 1997, the so-called Leahy Amendment, named after its author Senator Patrick Leahy, D-Vt., makes it illegal for the U.S. to arm or train foreign militaries credibly accused of human rights violations. While the law hasn’t stopped all U.S. support for atrocities, it is an eminently reasonable measure that now the Obama administration wants to do away with.

The president claims the arms will only be delivered to “vetted” rebel groups, avoiding the hundreds of other rebel factions said by United Nations investigators to have committed war crimes. But it’s virtually impossible to funnel weapons into a chaotic civil war without them getting into the wrong hands.

Milton Bearden, a 30-year CIA veteran who oversaw the $3 billion covert program to arm the Afghan mujahideen against the Soviets told Foreign Policy that the Obama administration should beware. “If you [arm the rebels], don’t try to convince yourself that you’re in control,” he said…

This makes it difficult for the Obama administration to abide by the spirit of the Leahy Law, given that many of Syria’s rebel groups have engaged in torture, extra-judicial killings, and mutilation of the dead. The leading rebel groups have close ties to al-Qaeda groups….

The U.S. has a long history of supporting extreme brutality, even genocide, through unsavory proxy militias. And now, as the Obama administration is increasing its support for fighters in places like Syria, Honduras and Nigeria, Washington is looking to revive that storied pastime.

When they say the “The U.S. has a long history of supporting extreme brutality, even genocide, through unsavory proxy militias” I assume that “storied history” goes back to 1983 when Reagan’s National Endowment for Democracies was started.

But there’s trouble in Paradise, the EU has sobered up and now Putin has provided a way out of this endless American made nightmare.  Unfortunately the American government and the NED is addicted and the only hope for America is an intervention, tough love.  And that tough love is now being imposed by Vladimir Putin.  From PaulCraig Roberts:

Excerpt:

A Decisive Shift In The Power Balance Has Occurred — Paul Craig Roberts

The world is beginning to realize that a seachange in world affairs occured on September 28 when President Putin of Russia stated in his UN speech that Russia can no longer tolerate Washington’s vicious, stupid, and failed policies that have unleashed chaos, which is engulfing the Middle East and now Europe. Two days later, Russia took over the military situation in Syria and began the destruction of the Islamic State forces.

Perhaps among Obama’s advisors there are a few who are not drowning in hubris and can understand this seachange. Sputnik news reports that some high-level security advisors to Obama have advised him to withdraw US military forces from Syria and give up his plan to overthrow Assad.

They advised Obama to cooperate with Russia in order to stop the refugee flow that is overwhelming Washington’s vassals in Europe. The influx of unwanted peoples is making Europeans aware of the high cost of enabling US foreign policy. Advisors have told Obama that the idiocy of the neoconservatives’ policies threaten Washington’s empire in Europe….

If you are an advisor to Obama and you are sane, there’s no chance that he will listen, especially with self-declared Zionist Joe Biden and John Kerry pushing for more arms to be given to “moderate rebel” terrorists.

The neoconservatives’ plan for a UN no-fly zone over Syria in order to push out the Russians is a pipedream. No such resolution will come out of the UN. Indeed, the Russians have already established a de facto no-fly zone.

Putin, without issuing any verbal threats or engaging in any name-calling, has decisively shifted the power balance, and the world knows it.

Washington’s response consists of name-calling, bluster and more lies, some of which is echoed by some of Washington’s ever more doubtful vassals. The only effect is to demonstrate Washington’s impotence.

If Obama has any sense, he will dismiss from his government the neoconservative morons who have squandered Washington’s power, and he will focus instead on holding on to Europe by working with Russia to destroy, rather than to sponsor, the terrorism in the Middle East that is overwhelming Europe with refugees.

If Obama cannot admit a mistake, the United States will continue to lose credibility and prestige around the world.

Well Dr. Roberts therein lies the problem, Obama’s ego will not allow him to admit a mistake and he’ll take America down with him.  Obama’s America is drunk with power and has gone on a binge from which he has yet to wake up.  When the sun comes up, the drunk is going to find his battered wife, European Union has fled to Putin’s safe house, and now it’s Sunday Morning coming down.

When the Truth about ISIS Accidently Comes Out

On CNN John Joseph Hanna of the Washington Post accidently revealed the truth about the U.S.'s allies in Syria.  No wonder Putin and Iran have had to intervene in Syria to assist the Syrian government in fighting terrorists.

“We Be Sisters” Stumps for Trump, Rupert Murdoch Stumps for Biden

Oh, what a glorious time to be a political junkie.  Rupert Murdoch’s media empire has been upended with the entrance of Donald Trump into the Republican primary.  With Murdoch’s cadre of clown candidates being picked off one by one by the Donald, the attacks have reached a zenith.  First clown to bite the dust was Rick Perry, next was Scott Walker.  Oh, Scott Walker had great potential, dumb as a box of rocks, ideologically driven with god as his advisor, it was all systems go after he announced his run.

Then came the Donald, descending down his golden escalator telling America he wanted to make America great again.  The Donald announced he would take no money from special interests to fund his campaign; he’d be beholden to no one, especially Rupert Murdoch.  Trump immediately caught fire with the people and with supporters like “We be Sisters” stumping for Trump, Murdoch was left stunned unable to figure out what hit him.

The attacks by Fox News, Politico and Wall Street Journal came fast and furious and when Fox’s highest paid propagandists were given the task to tear down the Donald at the first Republican debate, Fox fell flat on its face.  The reason why you may ask?  Well Donald Trump’s presence on the stage brought in 20 million viewers, many of whom are not regular watchers of the right wing channel.  They were what Murdoch’s toadies call “low information voters” translated that means voters who have had a low level of exposure to the radioactive right wing echo chamber.

Murdoch and his ilk, cannot understand the attraction of Trump and never will figure it out.  The reason, it’s not quantifiable.  Just look at the videos of We Be Sisters and maybe you’ll get a clue, Rupert.

Trump is impervious to the Murdoch attacks and Murdoch may have to have a come to Jesus moment and reconcile that he has no chance of knocking the Trump out of the race, Trump will be the Republican candidate because he has a power Murdoch does not, he speaks to the people.

Murdoch’s Fox News, Wall Street Journal as well as CNN, NBC and a myriad of media have launched attack after attack against Hillary Clinton with faux scandal after faux scandal from Benghazi to e-mails bringing the fervor to a crescendo.

The relentless attacks along with Murdoch’s minions in congress with subpoena power have had investigation after investigation.  It doesn’t matter that the accusations are baseless, it’s the “appearance” of wrong doing, the “appearance” that there must be a there, there that have caused Hillary’s popularity to drop.

It appears that Murdoch’s goal has been to drag Hillary through the mud opening the door to a Biden candidacy.  From Politico:

Excerpt:

Murdoch: Biden to run ... and win

Rupert Murdoch, the chairman of 21st Century Fox and News Corp., believes Joe Biden has already started running for president and is "very likely" to win the Democratic nomination.

"Looks like Biden already running," Murdoch tweeted on Monday evening. "Very likely he wins nomination and be hard to beat."

If such a prognostication seems like nefarious meddling to some Hillary Clinton supporters, it's worth remembering that Murdoch is never one to troll. He tweets earnestly, often pushing on politicians' weaknesses—Republicans and Democrats alike—or rallying for pet causes like immigration reform. His observations often seem less like opinion and more like unsourced intelligence picked up from political power brokers.

Have you ever seen so much bullshit in one paragraph?  And Politico’s glowing adoration of Murdoch is laughable.  His observations ARE “unsourced intelligence from political power brokers.”

Murdoch's remark comes as Biden approaches a deadline for entry into the race. Bolstered by Clinton's waning approval rating, Biden and his aides have been aggressively considering a run….

It's not clear what intel, if any, Murdoch has on Biden's presidential ambitions. What is clear is that the media mogul is eager to see someone shake up the 2016 race. Late last month, he argued that it was time for "greatest mayor" Michael Bloomberg to throw his hat into the ring.

Murdoch is no fan of Trump, either, despite the fact that his cable news network has done much to fuel Trump's rise.

So John Boehner has announced he is stepping down as Speaker of the House to open the door for Murdoch loyalist, Kevin McCarthy.  Don’t get me wrong, I’m no Boehner fan, I think Boehner stinks to high heaven, his only redeeming quality is that he’s the best looking horse in the glue factory.

But Kevin McCarthy and Sean Hannity on Rupert Murdoch’s Fox News station broke the most important commandment in Murdoch’s playbook, never tell the truth.  And after meticulously laying the groundwork for a Biden announcement with “unsourced intelligence from political power brokers” supplying an unending drip, drip, drip of e-mails, Biden is just about ready.

But all that blew up in Murdoch’s face courtesy of Sean Hannity and Speaker to be Kevin McCarthy.  From Huffington Post:

Excerpt:

Likely House Speaker Praises Benghazi Committee For Hurting Hillary Clinton Politically

Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.), the man likely to become the next speaker of the House, applauded the Select Committee on Benghazi for damaging the poll numbers of Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton.

McCarthy said Tuesday that Clinton would have remained "unbeatable," had it not been for the committee.

"Everybody thought Hillary Clinton was unbeatable, right? But we put together a Benghazi special committee, a select committee, what are her numbers today?" McCarthy told Fox News' Sean Hannity. "Her numbers are dropping, why? Because she's untrustable. But no one would have known any of that had happened."

Oh, ouch the truth burns.  But not to be deterred, Rupert Murdoch’s Wall Street Journal is trying to breathe new life into the smoldering embers of Clinton’s fall in the polls.

Excerpt:

Some Hillary Clinton Donors Defect to Movement to Draft Joe Biden

WASHINGTON—Some Hillary Clinton donors are defecting to Joe Biden, resisting entreaties from the Democratic front-runner’s campaign to stand by her despite slipping poll numbers.

A few of the fundraisers have gone public with their presidential preference. Others have quietly decamped and signaled their intentions to the Draft Biden 2016 super PAC that is working to prod the vice president into the race for the White House.

In the meantime, the Draft Biden organization is securing commitments as the vice president’s public standing is on the rise, while Mrs. Clinton appears more vulnerable. A Wall Street Journal/NBC poll released this week shows that Mr. Biden is running stronger than Mrs. Clinton in head-to-head match-ups against leading Republican candidates.

“Instead of being ready for Hillary, we’re waiting for Joe,” said Bill Bartmann, the founder and chief executive of CFS2 Inc., and onetime donor to Mrs. Clinton’s friendly super PAC. Mr. Bartmann’s switch in allegiance prompted one Clinton campaign official to contact him and ask: “Why are you doing this?” he said.

Hmmm, who’s this Bill Bartmann that’s “waiting for Joe?”  According to Forbes:

Excerpt:

Return of the Billionaire Huckster

Oh, my, my, Bill Bartmann who is “waiting for Joe” is a billionaire huckster?  I wonder where he made his billions.  Let’s see:

Bill Bartmann built one of America’s biggest fortunes turning credit card debt into novel Wall Street securities, and then lost it all in a massive accounting fraud. Now he’s back to his old game-and branding himself a reformer.

Bill Bartmann used to be a billionaire, but you wouldn’t know it. The sleeves on his collarless shirt pushed up to his elbows, the 63-year-old arrived early to my meeting with him in a Chicago coffee shop, waiting earnestly in a booth facing the door. Within minutes of introducing himself Bartmann summed up his feelings with a line that could stir the envy of Raj Rajaratnam or Bernie Madoff: “I’m thrilled to death to be alive and not in prison….”

Ah ha, ha, ha!  Good old “waiting for Joe” Bill Bartmann is “thrilled to death to be alive and not in prison.”   Oh, let’s hear more, this should be good.

It’s been that kind of ride. Thirteen years ago Bartmann owned and ran the nation’s biggest debt collection company, Commercial Financial Services, raking in huge profits courtesy of people with overdue credit card bills and then turning that debt into a Wall Street chit. But after his partner confessed to inflating collection rates at his agency, Bartmann lost his fortune, his company and his reputation. He barely avoided the slammer.

He barely avoided the slammer.  Ha, ha, I guess it pays to have a pal like Vice President Joe Biden.

Stirring his breakfast coffee, Bartmann now speaks of his former industry with the zeal of a former alcoholic espousing the wonders of temperance. “I’m shining light on an ugly industry….”

All well and good—except that Bartmann has reentered the debt collection business. His new company is chasing 40,000 Americans for $270 million in credit card debt and has exponentially grander aspirations. The debt-reformer schtick he’s performing for me and politicians across the U.S. is a jujitsu tactic—the more he bashes the industry that made him rich, it seems, the better chance it will make him rich again.

If that seems counterintuitive, so be it. Everything about Bill Bartmann is.

Good old Joe Biden, in a previous blog post I referred to Joe as “patty cake, patty cake Banker’s Man.”  I’ll just bet Bill Bartmann is “waiting for Joe.”   So according to Rupert Murdoch’s Wall Street Journal, who else is jumping on the “waiting for Joe” titanic.

Beata Stylianos, a technology executive from Los Angeles, gave the maximum $2,700 contribution to Mrs. Clinton’s primary campaign in June. Now, she is supporting the effort to nudge Mr. Biden into the race.

As a widow, she said she has been moved by how Mr. Biden has dealt with losses in his own family, including the death in May of his son Beau Biden. “When you have someone of his stature be so honest and frank, it’s inspiring and it inspired me,” said Ms. Stylianos, who has also made contributions to the Democratic National Committee and various Senate races.

Oh… how sweet.  According to the poor widow the reason she’s on board with “waiting for Joe” is “when you have someone of his stature be so honest and frank, it’s inspiring and it inspired me.”  Poor dear, so who was her dearly departed husband?  From Newswire:

Excerpt:

Stylianos Becomes Sole Owner of Mission Critical Technologies, Inc.

For most of his tenure at MCT, Mr. Stylianos has been its technology leader and visionary as CTO. Over the course of 18 years, the company grew rapidly, winning major IT project augmentation and systems development contracts from Fortune-500 clients such as Nestle USA, Warner Bros. Entertainment and Toyota, as well as performing healthcare IT at prominent institutions such as Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.

Today, fully half of MCT's revenues ($20.5M in 2010) come from government contracting for agencies such as the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA)….

How much you want to bet one of those IT projects for HHS was the Healthcare.gov boondoggle that cost the American taxpayers billions. From Bloomberg Business:'

Excerpt:

How Healthcare.gov Botched $600 Million Worth of Contracts

The public employees responsible for overseeing $600 million in contracts to build healthcare.gov were inadequately trained, kept sloppy records, and failed to identify delays and problems that contributed to millions in cost overruns.

But I digress, so back to the dearly departed whose wife gets so much solace from the frankness and honesty of someone of Joe Biden’s stature.

Besides consulting on MCT's systems initiatives, he has served as principal investigator on scientific research projects for the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) in areas such as biometrics, quantum technologies and spintronics, and micro-sensors. He resides in Los Angeles with his wife Beata and daughter Sophia. He is an active supporter and benefactor of Caltech.

Sounds like the whole “Waiting for Joe” cabal has their well-fed snouts in the Obama Administration trough.  I wonder why they don’t want a Hillary Clinton administration, maybe this has something to do with it.  FromFortune:

Hillary Clinton unveils plan to curb corporate political influence

The Democratic frontrunner wants to force publicly traded companies to report all of their political spending

Hillary Clinton wants to force public companies to detail their political spending to shareholders.

The requirement, which the SEC would enforce, is part of a sweeping set of campaign finance reforms that the Democratic frontrunner is rolling out this week to tackle what her campaign calls the “stranglehold that wealthy interests have over our political system…..”

Last week, 44 Senators — including Vermont independent Bernie Sanders, so far Clinton’s stiffest 2016 challenger — wrote SEC Chair Mary Jo White urging her to mandate that reporting. But the SEC has so far resisted any rulemaking on the subject….

Federal law prohibits companies from giving directly to candidates from corporate coffers, though they can hand over four-figure sums through political action committees…

…the Supreme Court’s 2010 decision in the Citizens United made it possible for companies to end-run that disclosure, and give in unregulated amounts, by contributing to so-called social welfare organizations that can shield their contributors and in turn funnel money to super PACs.

The rollout comes as Clinton is seeking something of a campaign reboot after a difficult summer. Questions surrounding her use of a private email server during her tenure as Secretary of State continue to dominate press coverage of her bid, and her standing in the polls has suffered as a result.

After those remarks by Kevin McCarthy and Sean Hannity the whole faux e-mail scandal with the FBI releasing tranches of Hillary’s personal e-mails induce flashbacks to the FBI rummaging through Hillary’s underwear drawers looking for the missing Rose Law Firm billing records.  From L.A. Times:

Magazine Says Starr Forced White House Search in 1996

WASHINGTON — A lawyer scoured President Clinton's White House residence, including the first family's underwear drawers, as part of a compromise to head off a search warrant in 1996, a magazine reported Sunday.

“We be Sisters” have registered as Republicans to ensure they will be able to vote for Trump in the Republican primary.  They “Stump for Trump.”  Rupert Murdoch has turned the dogs on Hillary Clinton, trying to rip apart her Presidential campaign in order to clear the way for a Joe Biden campaign.  Murdoch is “Stumping for Biden.”

Hopefully the American people will see through the blinding shit storm Murdoch has stirred up and see that the only thing Hillary has done is pose a threat to the moneyed interests who have engorged themselves on government largess for the past 8 years and want 8 more years.

Could the Syrian War lead to a Military Coup in America, Britain and Canada?

Although it’s a purely hypothetical question, it deserves an examination.  This video from Kevin Chambers at Wordpress.com begins a very interesting discussion. The video is entitled “When Martial Law Comes It Will Be Welcomed with Open Arms”.

Excerpt:

When Martial Law Comes It Will Be Welcomed With Open Arms

In today’s thought for the day, James looks at a couple of stories that reveal the truth about the false notion that change will ever come through the ballot box, and how people can be made to desire their own enslavement.

The idea of a military coup in America has been explored many times before, like in this article from earlier this year published by Global Research.

Excerpt:

“The American Military Coup of 2012″: Encroachment upon Basic Freedoms, Militarized Police State in America

Dunlap cites what he considered a dangerous precedent, the 1981 Military Cooperation with Civilian Law Enforcement Agencies Act, an act that sanctioned US military engagement with law enforcement in domestic “support operations,” including “civil disturbance” operations. The act codified the lawful status and use of military “assets” in domestic police work.

Encroachment upon Basic Freedoms

… the American people have been subject to a series of deeper and deeper encroachments upon our basic freedoms, increasingly extensive deployment of military operations on the home front, perpetrated by a corporate driven military mission creep that now claims the right and duty to arrest and detain us on the word of a Pentagon or White House operative. President Obama’s signing of the 2012 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) whose Section 1021 sanctions the military detention of American citizens without charge, essentially aims to put the last nail in the coffin of our Constitution, our teetering Republic and our most basic democratic traditions….

The White House had threatened to veto an earlier version of the NDAA, but reversed course (of course) shortly before Congress voted on the final bill, which the President signed on the 31st of December 2011, a day that will go down in infamy.

“President Obama’s action today is a blight on his legacy because he will forever be known as the president who signed indefinite detention without charge or trial into law,” said Anthony D. Romero, ACLU executive director. “The statute is particularly dangerous because it has no temporal or geographic limitations, and can be used by this and future presidents to militarily detain people captured far from any battlefield.”

According to Senator Dianne Feinstein. “Congress is essentially authorizing the indefinite imprisonment of American citizens, without charge,” she said. “We are not a nation that locks up its citizens without charge.” Think again. (Guardian, 12/14/11)

Under the legislation, suspects can be held without trial “until the end of hostilities.” They will have the right to appear once a year before a committee that will decide if the detention will continue….  It breaks with over 200 years of tradition in America against using the military in domestic affairs.”

In America the United States Senate has seized an unparalleled amount of power and that power has been concentrated in the hands of a small majority of the 100 Senators who share an ideology of American Exceptionalism and the right to use military force anywhere they desire, absent any checks and balances.

A mechanism created by the Senate during the Bush Administration allows billions of unaccounted for dollars to flow to funding such missions as the training of “moderate” rebels in Syria.  From Salon:

“Crack cocaine for the Pentagon”: Meet the secret slush fund that’s getting hawks high

While the right cuts tons of basic services, here's the secret slush fund the military doesn't want you to discover.

As budget votes get going this week, keep an eye on the three most magical letters in Washington: OCO…. – which stands for Overseas Contingency Operations – represents an escape hatch. Put money into OCO and it doesn’t count as spent, at least not against the constraints Congress has shackled itself with for four years. It’s a great deal – as long as you’re part of the military.

“It’s basically crack cocaine for the Pentagon,” said Gordon Adams, a professor at American University who worked on defense budgets at the Office of Management and Budget during the Clinton administration. “It gives you a flexibility that most domestic discretionary agencies would kill for.”

As OCO became more of what Gordon Adams calls “magic money,” the White House got in on the act. They created a $5 billion counterterrorism account and stuck it in OCO, keeping the fund alive even after Iraq and Afghanistan end. The $1 billion “European Reassurance” fund to support Ukraine came out of OCO.

Three thousand troops to West Africa to handle Ebola? OCO. $500 million to train the Syrian opposition? OCO. Even State Department funding has gone in OCO, as much as $7 billion, over 15 percent of their total expenditures.

The GOP’s budget resolution for fiscal year 2016, due for votes this week, takes the OCO ploy to the extreme. The House designated $96 billion to OCO, $38 billion above the White House’s request, keeping the base budget capped, while flying past it with “emergency” spending….

Remember that the same lawmakers who voted for that believe we can’t afford to feed hungry people in America.

Yes, it’s the slush fund that provided military training for Syrian “rebels” to overthrow the government in Syria, it’s the slush fund that provided for a CIA coup to remove the elected President in Ukraine and much, much more.   The author of that article, David Dayen is right the money is like crack cocaine for the Pentagon.

And when a crack addict’s supply is threatened, that crack addict becomes very dangerous.  The lengths that the crack addict will go to in order to ensure a steady supply of the drug are now on display in Britain.  The new Labour leader, Jeremy Corbyn is threating to cut off the crack supply to the British military.  From Independent.

Excerpt:

British Army 'could stage mutiny under Corbyn', says senior serving general
Generals would not 'allow a prime minister to jeopardise the security of the UK'

A senior serving general has reportedly warned that a Jeremy Corbyn government could face "a mutiny" from the Army if it tried to downgrade them.

The unnamed general said members of the armed forces would begin directly and publicly challenging the labour leader if he tried to scrap Trident, pull out of Nato or announce “any plans to emasculate and shrink the size of the armed forces.”

He told the Sunday Times: “The Army just wouldn’t stand for it. The general staff would not allow a prime minister to jeopardise the security of this country and I think people would use whatever means possible, fair or foul to prevent that. You can’t put a maverick in charge of a country’s security…

Labour's Shadow Foreign Secretary Hilary Benn on scrapping Trident and leaving Nato: 'I don't think that is going to happen…'

The Sunday Times reported that half of Mr Corbyn’s Cabinet have approached David Cameron to say they are prepared to defy the whip and vote with the government so long as Mr Cameron comes up with a coherent plan.

The Army is ready to “use any means possible, fair or foul” to keep the crack coming, I bet the means they use will be more foul than fair.   That half of Corbyn’s cabinet are the Tony Blair, Gordon Brown wing that took Britain and America to war in Iraq with their “sexed up” evidence against Saddam Hussein.

And when Kevin Chambers at Wordpress says it is a “false notion that change will ever come through the ballot box” he’s right.  After all the people in Britain voted Corbyninto office to stop the austerity Cameron has exacted on the people to pay for the crack cocaine for the military.

The people in Scotland and the UK want the Trident nuclear weapon program stopped, but the military is threatening to overthrow the government officials to stop the people’s will.

On October 1, 2015 Mint Press reported that the Canadian and American military brass have explored combining their militaries.

Canadian Military Explored Plan To Fully Integrate Forces With U.S.

CBC News has learned that a Canadian military effort to formally create integrated forces with the United States for expeditionary operations included an even more ambitious option — a plan to fully integrate military forces, explored during a meeting with the top generals from the two countries….

Information provided by the Department of National Defence shows the Canada-U.S. Integrated Forces program was led at the highest levels, with then Chief of the Defence Staff Gen. Tom Lawson and the chairman of the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff, Gen. Martin Dempsey (now retired), meeting on “several occasions” to hash out a plan that included an option for “fully integrated forces…”

On Monday, CBC News reported that the Canadian military had been working on a plan to create a binational integrated military force with the U.S., under which air, sea, land and special operations forces would be jointly deployed under unified command outside Canada….

Discussion of the plans for an integrated unit was contained in an October 2013 briefing note prepared by the military’s Strategic Joint Staff and obtained through access to information.

Government not part of discussions

A Conservative spokesman also said the party had no desire to establish a “standing integrated force.”

But the new information from the Defence Department shows the planning was deliberate and sustained, and it happened at the highest levels of both forces.

Those two comments raise the possibility the plan was being pursued without the specific direction or approval of the Conservative government….

There would also be deep concerns about maintaining national control over the Canadian Forces, particularly as it relates to questions about the use of force and varying interpretations of international law.

In the end, the Defence Department says, “Gen. Lawson indicated that Canada was not prepared to field fully integrated land forces at this time.”

“The two armies do not intend to field formally integrated forces at this time,” wrote DND spokesman Dominique Tessier in an email….

Norad has also assumed increasing responsibility to provide warning and target information for naval forces that protect the maritime approaches to North America.

But those efforts are focused on defence; the integrated forces planning was for expeditionary forces to be deployed on operations overseas.

What is even more chilling is the absence of a fourth estate.  The amount of control over the media in America, Britain and Canada by Rupert Murdoch is a threat to the security, safety and constitutionally provided freedom of the people of these nations.

In America, we have Freedom of the Press guaranteed in our Constitution.  This is so the Press can function as a watchdog for the people, protecting them from the excesses and abuses of a corrupt government.  Seymour Hersh is one such journalist that has tirelessly reported on government abuse.  From Journal NEO:

Excerpt:

Seymour Hersh has risked much over his decades of journalism. He is a true journalist who has been attacked, slandered, and shunned by all sides simply because he seems to resist taking any side.

When he reported on US atrocities in Vietnam, he was first attacked and denounced as a traitor or worse. In time, both the truth and Hersh were vindicated and the importance of what he did as a journalist to both inform the public and serve as a check and balance against the special interests of ruling power were recognized with a Pultizer Prize.

In 2007, when he exposed the then Bush-administration’s plans to use the Muslim Brotherhood and militant groups linked to Al Qaeda to overthrow the government of Syria – the result of which is unfolding today – the New Yorker gladly welcomed his work as a message they perceived would resonate well with liberal audiences.

But then in 2013, when Hersh brought forward information contradicting the West’s official narrative regarding a chemical attack on the outskirts of Damascus, the New Yorker decided not to publish it. His report, “Whose Sarin?” instead found itself published in the London Review of Books…

Hersh’s  report went on in detail covering the manner in which Western leaders intentionally manipulated or even outright fabricated intelligence to justify military intervention in Syria – eerily similar to the lies told to justify the invasion and occupation of Iraq, and the escalation of the war in Vietnam after the Gulf of Tonkin incident.

And not only did the report punch holes through the official narrative, it helped hobble what little momentum was left for Western military aggression against Syria based on the lies told by the US and its allies regarding the chemical attack.

In Hersh’s follow up report, “The Red Line and the Rat Line,” also published by the London Review of Books, he revealed information not only further exposing the lies told by the US and its allies, but suggested NATO member Turkey and close US-ally Saudi Arabia may have played a role in supplying those responsible for the attack with the chemical weapons….

Using what they collectively called “open source intelligence” – watching YouTube videos and looking at Google Earth – they claimed the type of rocket and nerve agent used could only have been deployed by the Syrian government.

Recently it was reported in alternative media sources that the Pentagon has legalized the killing of journalists.  From Counter CurrentNews:

Pentagon Just Legalized Killing ‘Belligerent’ Journalists As Part of ‘Law of War’

The Pentagon just changed the rules of war to include legitimizing the killing of any journalists they deem “belligerent.”

The new “laws of war” were released as part of a book of instructions on legitimate warfare practices approved by the United States military.

This “rule book” of sorts details what the US government deems the acceptable ways of killing those they claim are the “enemy”… including journalists whose reporting they do not approve.

The manual explains that the Pentagon considers such journalists “unprivileged belligerents,” even though they are not “enemy combatants.”

Now, the American 1,176-page “Department of Defense Law of War Manual” says that it is perfectly legitimate to shoot, explode, bomb, stab, or cut journalists they deem “belligerent.”

After four years of war in Syria, the world is finally saying enough is enough.  President Bashar Assad has requested Russian and Iranian military assistance to join his Syrian forces to fight against the terrorists and rebels that seek to overthrow the elected government of Assad.

Russia, in compliance with international law, has launched a bombing campaign to drive back the enemies of the Syrian people.  Simultaneously, Iran has ground troops pushing into Syria to drive out the terrorists and rebels that the U.S. and its allies have trained and supported.  From TheAustralian:

Vladimir Putin’s muscular play breaks Syria open

This week Vladimir Putin comprehensively humiliated Barack Obama at the UN.

The contrast could not be starker. The US President spoke overtime, for more than 45 minutes, but did nothing. The Russian President spoke for 20 minutes and transformed the strategic environment in the Middle East.

Obama lectured Putin in public and in private, telling him not to intervene militarily in Syria.

Putin listened politely enough, then speedily launched bombing raids in Syria.

Putin said any Russian intervention in Syria would be directed against Islamic State forces. In fact, although Australian intelligence does not yet have this fully confirmed, it seems the strikes were mostly in locations where Islamic State is not a significant presence. They allegedly hit some rebel forces trained and approved by the Americans.

Putin’s military move was accompanied by diplomatic gains. Russia, Iran, the Syrian regime of Bashar al-Assad and the government of Iraq, notionally allied to the US, have joined in an intelligence-sharing arrangement against Islamic State. The Baghdad government approved the use of Iraqi airspace by Russian planes and Russian personnel will be stationed at an intelligence facility in Baghdad.

The Russian moves transform strategic calculations in Syria and have left Washington completely flat-footed and almost irrelevant….

All this week at the UN, Australia’s Foreign Minister Julie Bishop has argued it is essential to seek a political solution in Syria, that no option should be ruled out — meaning that Assad be allowed to stay in power — and that negotiating any solution must involve dialogue with Russia and, more important, with Iran.

For this she has been criticised by some US and Australian commentators, who believe she may be too accommodating to Iran or that Assad’s bloody record in the Syrian civil war means he must be deposed. In fact, Bishop has been absolutely right. She has been ahead of the curve and has helped create some extra diplomatic space for the Americans to go where they now need to go….

The problem is that most of the Sunni Arab nations such as Saudi Arabia and the other Gulf states, as well as Sunni Turkey, several European nations and the US itself, had insisted that Assad leave office as a precondition for such talks….

Given the degree of international support for Assad, his regime is no longer likely to collapse. Therefore Bishop’s position is the height of realism at its most noble — the West must negotiate with the forces on the ground.

So it looks like the Pentagon’s crack cocaine supply is going to be cut off and that puts the people of America, Britain and Canada in a dangerous situation.  If the Syrian war ends and ISIS is eradicated it will be hard to convince the people that they need to give up the health, wealth and welfare for freedom.   In the words of the song Bobby McGee “freedom is just another word for nothing left to lose.”
